chemical peels

What are Chemical Peels?

Chemical peels are non-invasive cosmetic procedures that use a single or a combination of alpha hydroxy acids (AHA) to address your specific skin type and skin conditions.  These acids work together to break down the top few layers of the epidermis Stratum corneum (your skin's top outer layer), exfoliating the skin and leaving behind the healthier layers underneath.

AHA are acids that is derived from sugarcane, milk or fruit.

Alpha Hydroxy Acids List

1. Glycolic Acid

Glycolic acid is derived from sugar cane and is considered the strongest because of the small size of its molecules.  It  penetrates the skin deeply to help stimulate collagen production.

2. Lactic Acid

Lactic acid is milder than glycolic acid and also helps hydrate the skin. Because its molecules are larger than glycolic acid, it doesn’t penetrate the skin as deeply. Lactic acid is found in milk.

3. Malic Acid

Malic acid is known for its skin-brightening abilities. With a molecule size larger than that of lactic acid, it’s also gentler on the skin. Malic acid is naturally occurring in apples.

4. Mandelic Acid

Mandelic acid is similar to lactic and malic acids in that its larger particle size makes it potentially less irritating.

5. Citric Acid

Citric acid is the mildest, least acidic of the AHAs mentioned here. Found naturally in citrus fruits such as orange, lemon, lime and grapefruit.

Why use Chemical Peels

Chemical peels are excellent for addressing a variety of skin conditions, by using AHAs to trigger a controlled trauma to the epidermis (skin) to address these skin concerns:

·Acne

·Chronic sun damage

·Fine lines and wrinkles

·Hyperpigmentation (brown spots)

·Melasma

·Oily skin (large, visible pores)

·Scarring

·Uneven skin tone or texture

Facial Treatment options

We offer several facial treatments with AHAs to address your concerns (dull skin, acne scars, hyperpigmentation, fine lines & wrinkles):

  • Pro-Skin Custom Facial (includes AHAs options)
  • Hydrating Lactic Acid Peel Facial | Peeling du visage à l'acide lactique

The Pro-Skin Custom Facial is a fully customized facial will include a deep cleaning, exfoliation through highly effective lactic and alpha/beta gel-based peels, treatment masks, and infusion designed to address the signs of aging, acne, and congestion, pigmentation concerns, and sensitivity, resulting in radiant skin.

The Hydrating Lactic Acid Peel Facial is designed to gently and effectively exfoliate while hydrating  and brightening your skin.

There are several requisites that must be done prior to the introduction of AHA's on a client: cease Retinols, Retin A, Renova, Glycolic and Salicylic acids for one week prior to your appointment.  We recommend that you come in for a patch test prior to the appointment to understanding if there is no allergic reactions prior to the appointment.  That is no charge for the patch test.

What to expect?

Depending on the chemical peel and your skin’s adaptation to the treatment, you may have a range of peeling (skin shedding off).  Because a chemical solution consisting of a mix of alpha hydroxy acids (AHA) is applied to your skin, this causes a (controlled) wound/trauma to your skin's layers. Over 3 -5 days, the skin layers eventually peel off revealing more new skin. The amount of peeling depends on several factors (number of layers applied, % of the AHA, your skin’s wound healing cycle, etc).

After the treatment, no other facial procedures will be performed that day.  You will be given a homecare regimen (a set of products) to use for a specific time frame.  A two (2) week, post-peel follow-up visit will be scheduled to perform a check-in on the results and perform a follow-up facial.

Our approach to chemical peels

Pretreat & Homecare

Our primary goal is to help you achieve your skincare goals over time using a conservative approach to our treatment plan.  We follow manufacturing instructions to ensure your safety and the efficacy of the results.

Our technicians apply superficial and medium-depth chemical peels.

Therefore, we do not apply a chemical peel on the first (1st) visit.  We perform a thorough client consultation and skin analysis to review your medical history and skin treatment history to better understand what was done and what is still needed to meet your desired skin goals.

We create a treatment plan that includes several months of pre-treatment.  Pre-treatment is mandatory for all chemical peel procedures to ensure that your skin is ready and can tolerate the level of exfoliation required to provide the desired results.  We follow a conservative approach and build on the successes of each treatment and session.
